Fashion fast forward- AW14 Asymmetrical Tailoring

Asymmetrical Tailoring

Autumn is only months away and trend forecasters around the fashion world have been doing some educated guessing into what the key features will be running throughout the shops. In the 'Pre-Fall' 14 collections designers including 'Victor and Rolf' and 'Philip Lim' showcased asymmetrical tailoring. Some of the designers have also played with layering and the combination of different textures to create the effect. This trend has adapted from the relaxed tailoring shown during the SS14 catwalks, in which loose crepe blazers are a staple piece for spring/summer. Fast forward a few months and we are expected to see a more structured and sophisticated tailoring leading us into a chic winter.

Joseph Altuzarra x Target AW14

American giants Target have teamed up with another designer for a Autum collaboration. This time it's the relatively 'new' designer Joseph Altuzurra. With Altuzurra only landing on the scene in 2008 it's safe to say that his luxurious and effotlessly cool designs have become a hit with many celebrites such a Jennifer Lawrence and has catapulted him into stardom. However we have to wait until September to see the collection which will also be avaible, globally, on net-a-porter.

Congrats Joseph!

Gisele Bundchen for Chanel No. 5

With the most recent faces of the iconic Chanel No.5 include Marylin Monroe and Brad Pitt, the pressure was on to find someone who could be worthy enough to be the next ambassador. Before the unveiling, there was a lot of talk surrounding Bajen beauty Rihanna and Karls favourite Cara Delevigne. Chanel has intact decided on Victoria Secret angel, and seventh highest earning model Gisele Bundchen. The Brazilian supermodel was chosen for her 'natural beauty and modern femininity'. She is certainly no stranger to the brand as she is face on the beauty cult favourite Chanel Les Beiges.

A short film, capturing Gisele and the Chanel No. 5 brand, will be directed by the Oscar winning Baz Luhrmann. It is a decade since he last shot with Chanel which featured actress Nicole Kidman. The new ads are expected to be released later this year. Keep your eyes peeled for that!

Kimberley Kardashian and Kanye West

Most anticipated wedding since Cathrine the Dutchess of Cambridge tied the knot with Prince William, is that of the reality star Kim Kardashian and the lavish rapper Kanye West.

Speculation surrounding the details of the West's wedding have been on going for months with them both remaining tight lipped on the event.

Thier wedding extravaganza set off in Paris, France with a private dinner with Mr Valentino himself which sparked rumours that Kim would wear custom Valention (how wrong we were) it was held at his breathtaking mansion, Chateau de Wideville where they were all serenaded by an equalling breathing taking voice, Lana Del Ray. The next day, guests were whisked off to Florence, Italy for the big day. In true Kanye style everything down to the dress, stage, venue was impeccable. I don't know whether you remember but a few weeks ago, Kim Kardashian shared a instagram video of her gift from Kanye west on mothers day. A wall of flowers. This was the biggest hint to the masterpiece of the wedding and we didn't even know it.

This same style of flowers was used for the backdrop of the wedding, which beautifully contrasted with the green surroundings. White seemed to play a prominated theme within the event. The groom dressed in custom made black Givancey suit, and the bride, also in Givancey! Ricardo Ticci is truly a master of his work and this did not change for Mrs West's dress. From images surfing social media it seemed that the gown was a high necked, long sleeved, lace style with pearl detailing. Her hair was worn loose and natural and makeup as flawless as ever. I imagine that visionary, Kanye had a lot of input to how he wanted his bride to be and she looked every bit stunning. Although we have only received glimpses of the special day it seemed encaptured by elegance, regalness and class. Look below for pictures.

Fashion moments of 2013.

What a year it was for fashion fanatics. 2013 brought the biggest names in fashion (both high end and high street) together for the ultimate collaborations. RiRi for River Island and Isabel Marant for H&M. This was we can all afford a bit of luxe. 2013 was the year where women put down the tortuous tweezers and embraced their inner Cara. Twenty-thriteen was a celebratory and reflective year, as we were reminded the brilliance of two icon designers. Versace and Azzedine Alaia. Here is a brief flashback into 2013.

The Bajan beauty, Rihanna, announced the most anticipated collaboration of pop culture so far. RiRi for River Island. This announcement came just in time for it's debut at London Fashion Week. The collection was a hit with her fans A.KA. The Rihanna Navy, but not so much for the critics. However the popularity of the star overshadowed the bickering critics and she took centre stage in showcasing her casual, chic, flirty and street designs.

Jennifer Lawrence was the leading lady at the 2013 Oscar Awards. Beautifully dressed by Raf Simmons, Dior's new creative director, Lawrence displayed poise and elgance as she floated across the red carpet. A few glasses of Dom Perignon later and things were in for a tumble. Quite literally. As the beauty in Dior waltz her way to collecting the prestigious 'Best Actress' award, the voluminosity of the skirt caused her to fall in a iconic and surprisingly gracious way. In fact the moment was indeed picture perfect, causing an array of internet Memes which are worthy of the next Dior campaign.

Beyonce Knowles, Mrs Carter, Queen B, was unveiled as the new face of H&M this month. The star was sizzling in the new summer Campaign, displaying her perfectly trim and toned body in affordable and diva-licious swimwear. Beyonce herself was elated to be part of the retail giants latest venture commenting "I've always liked H&M's focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements - fire, water, earth and wind," said Knowles. "It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial." She is quite literally a golden goddess.

Margret Thatcher optimised the term Power Woman. The late Prime Minister described her style as 'never flashy- just appropriate'. When the news of her death arrived in April 2013, it was fair to say a few celebrated the Iron Lady's passing. Fashonistias, on the other hand, reminisced on her powerful and iconic style. Pearls became signature to her look, showcasing an eye for class. The pussybow blouse, on of her favourite styles, lay soft against her hard exterior. The look was not complete without her IT bag, which became symbolic to powerful women and made the point that women can do it to.

Girls. It's time to put those tweezers down, and pay homage to the girl who saved you from those pesky trips to the waxing studio. That is, the girl of the moment, Cara Delevingne.  2013 was truly a memorable year for Miss Delevingne. For sure she has had her toe-curlig moments, and come what 'controversial' stories, however she is on the top of everyones 'who to know list'. So what makes Cara Delevingne enviable? Firstly her brow power. They are the best brows in the business, making girls regret their year 9 stage at school where thin browns where 'in'. Secondly her BFF'S: Caranna (Rihanna and Cara)  Rara (Rita Ora and Cara) Ciley (Miley and Cara). Lets just say, who doesn't want to sit with them. Lastly her humorous and goofy personality, branding her as 'the girl you wish you had next door'. Cannes 2013 had every photographers lens aimed at Cara hoping to capture another Cara moment. Cara we adore you.

On night in June, some of the most powerful and influential women in the world came together and Chimed for Change. The 'Chime for Change' concerted was the hot ticket of everyones wish list. Stars all around the world including Beyonce, Madonna, J-Lo, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Blake Lively and many more all aimed to raise money for Gucci's campaign calling for female justice. Beyonce made her point with a leather leotard, custom made by Gucci, screaming independence. Whilst Madonna show empowerment in an all in black outfit. Gucci drives the passion for embracing a woman's role of society into our hearts. Thank you Gucci.

July was a special month for Essex raised Malaika Firth. She became the second black women to feature, and in this case, lead a Prada campaign since Naomi Campbell. For the 19 year old Kenyan supermodel these are big stilettos to fill. Malaika did a stunning job with her perfectly drawn bone structure and was 'completely ecstatic' when she found out the news. This is promising news for the world of fashion and hopefully means that the line with race will soon disappear.

As Mackelmore's hit 'Thrift Shop' soared to the number one spot in August so did the trend 'Thrifting'. Thrifting used to be associated with penny-savers grannies. Now its uber cool to D.I.Y with an old pain of jeans from the local charity store. At Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton displayed their own take of thrifting 'the ripped jean' even though the hip kids of London did it first. Thrifting is not just money saving but bang on trend. Who thought you could be fashionable with a £5 outfit (P.S Also keep an eye out for some vintage designer goodies)

Just as Fashion Week was coming to an end in Pairs, The Palais Galliera A.KA. The Museum of Fashion re-opened its doors to unveil the new retrospective of the legendary couturier Azzedine Alaia.  The Tuscan designer shot to fame in the 1980's with his innovatory take on the body con material. He uses the material to create some of the most beautifully sculptured silhouette dresses worn by supermodels such as Naomi Campbell and Yamin Le Bon. Now, for the first time, 70 of his most iconic dresses are on display including his most recant creation, Rihanna's scarlet Grammy Dress.  The Renaissance building encaptures his timeless and delicate collections.

Gianni and Donatella Versace are some of the biggest names in fashion. With their story-like life it has been surprising that movie giants such as Paramount or 21st Century Fox haven't snapped up the opportunity to create a film on how Versace appeared on the scene. However in October 2013, director Sara Sugarman directed a tv film titled 'House of Versace', which told the story of Donatella Versace's triumph over tragedy by carrying on her brother's powerful legacy after his tragic death in 1997. Milanese fashion house Versace has broken its silence over the film "Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace," It was slammed by critics and didn't live up to the tales of the Versace family. 21st Century Fox there is still time.

Isabel Maurent. A lable lust of luxe bohemian chic. That is the definition we give it. So in November when it was announced that she would be teaming up with leading retailers H&M for a one off colab our silk Isabel Maurent-esque coin purses were at the ready. The collection is filled with Parisian style including cropped jeanstextured sweaters and all the romantic dresses you've come to expect from the French fave. Finish off your Parisian look with a pair of  embellished heels and some boho-glam jewellery and your set to go off into the sunest on the French Rivera.

The start of December usually consists of people starting to prepare for the christmas festivities ahead. London, on the other hand, was preparing for the important date in the fashion calendar, The British Fashion Awards. The red carpet was steamed and rolled impeccably across the London Coliseum waiting for the arrival of the stylish pack. And what a night it was for British fashion. Alexa 'Leggy' Chung, lead the fashion pack with her effortless cool style whilst Rosie Huntington- Whitley oozed glamour. On to the awards, for British designer Christopher Bailey at Burberry it was a double win with his enchanting designs for both men and women. However the star of the catwalk was British supermodel and icon Kate Moss. Kate was acknowledged for her 25-year long career in the fashion industry as the fashion icon of her generation. The night was truly a celebration of British style and Britain is undoubtedly grateful.
