What a year it was for fashion fanatics. 2013 brought the biggest names in fashion (both high end and high street) together for the ultimate collaborations. RiRi for River Island and Isabel Marant for H&M. This was we can all afford a bit of luxe. 2013 was the year where women put down the tortuous tweezers and embraced their inner Cara. Twenty-thriteen was a celebratory and reflective year, as we were reminded the brilliance of two icon designers. Versace and Azzedine Alaia. Here is a brief flashback into 2013.
The Bajan beauty, Rihanna, announced the most anticipated collaboration of pop culture so far. RiRi for River Island. This announcement came just in time for it's debut at London Fashion Week. The collection was a hit with her fans A.KA. The Rihanna Navy, but not so much for the critics. However the popularity of the star overshadowed the bickering critics and she took centre stage in showcasing her casual, chic, flirty and street designs.

Jennifer Lawrence was the leading lady at the 2013 Oscar Awards. Beautifully dressed by Raf Simmons, Dior's new creative director, Lawrence displayed poise and elgance as she floated across the red carpet. A few glasses of Dom Perignon later and things were in for a tumble. Quite literally. As the beauty in Dior waltz her way to collecting the prestigious 'Best Actress' award, the voluminosity of the skirt caused her to fall in a iconic and surprisingly gracious way. In fact the moment was indeed picture perfect, causing an array of internet Memes which are worthy of the next Dior campaign.

Beyonce Knowles, Mrs Carter, Queen B, was unveiled as the new face of H&M this month. The star was sizzling in the new summer Campaign, displaying her perfectly trim and toned body in affordable and diva-licious swimwear. Beyonce herself was elated to be part of the retail giants latest venture commenting "I've always liked H&M's focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements - fire, water, earth and wind," said Knowles. "It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial." She is quite literally a golden goddess.

Margret Thatcher optimised the term Power Woman. The late Prime Minister described her style as 'never flashy- just appropriate'. When the news of her death arrived in April 2013, it was fair to say a few celebrated the Iron Lady's passing. Fashonistias, on the other hand, reminisced on her powerful and iconic style. Pearls became signature to her look, showcasing an eye for class. The pussybow blouse, on of her favourite styles, lay soft against her hard exterior. The look was not complete without her IT bag, which became symbolic to powerful women and made the point that women can do it to.

Girls. It's time to put those tweezers down, and pay homage to the girl who saved you from those pesky trips to the waxing studio. That is, the girl of the moment, Cara Delevingne. 2013 was truly a memorable year for Miss Delevingne. For sure she has had her toe-curlig moments, and come what 'controversial' stories, however she is on the top of everyones 'who to know list'. So what makes Cara Delevingne enviable? Firstly her brow power. They are the best brows in the business, making girls regret their year 9 stage at school where thin browns where 'in'. Secondly her BFF'S: Caranna (Rihanna and Cara) Rara (Rita Ora and Cara) Ciley (Miley and Cara). Lets just say, who doesn't want to sit with them. Lastly her humorous and goofy personality, branding her as 'the girl you wish you had next door'. Cannes 2013 had every photographers lens aimed at Cara hoping to capture another Cara moment. Cara we adore you.

On night in June, some of the most powerful and influential women in the world came together and Chimed for Change. The 'Chime for Change' concerted was the hot ticket of everyones wish list. Stars all around the world including Beyonce, Madonna, J-Lo, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Blake Lively and many more all aimed to raise money for Gucci's campaign calling for female justice. Beyonce made her point with a leather leotard, custom made by Gucci, screaming independence. Whilst Madonna show empowerment in an all in black outfit. Gucci drives the passion for embracing a woman's role of society into our hearts. Thank you Gucci.

As Mackelmore's hit 'Thrift Shop' soared to the number one spot in August so did the trend 'Thrifting'. Thrifting used to be associated with penny-savers grannies. Now its uber cool to D.I.Y with an old pain of jeans from the local charity store. At Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton displayed their own take of thrifting 'the ripped jean' even though the hip kids of London did it first. Thrifting is not just money saving but bang on trend. Who thought you could be fashionable with a £5 outfit (P.S Also keep an eye out for some vintage designer goodies)

Gianni and Donatella Versace are some of the biggest names in fashion. With their story-like life it has been surprising that movie giants such as Paramount or 21st Century Fox haven't snapped up the opportunity to create a film on how Versace appeared on the scene. However in October 2013, director Sara Sugarman directed a tv film titled 'House of Versace', which told the story of Donatella Versace's triumph over tragedy by carrying on her brother's powerful legacy after his tragic death in 1997. Milanese fashion house Versace has broken its silence over the film "Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace," It was slammed by critics and didn't live up to the tales of the Versace family. 21st Century Fox there is still time.
